This hour-long event at the Chelsea Physic Garden, London, was fully booked, and despite the unsettled weather all 20 people turned up.  We started by examining the Garden’s impressive collection of snowdrop, Galanthus cvs., in fine weather, before it became windy, when we retreated indoors for tea and coffee, and a talk about snowdrop folklore.  This is rather sparse and is mainly concerned with death and misfortune.  However, we were also able to discuss the annual Snowdrop Festival, at Shaftesbury, Dorset, and the annual Snowdrop Wood Open Day, at Charlton Place, Bishopsbourne, Kent.  Mention was also made of snowdrops association with hospices, notably Joseph Weld Hospice, in Dorchester, Dorset, and St Richard’s Hospice in Worcester.  Interesting discussion followed.
