Taddington well-dressing, 2023

Posted on by royvickery |

Taddington, a village in the Derbyshire Peak District, held its annual well-dressing on 19-25 August 2023, when it also held a flower festival in the parish church.  Well-dressing started here in 1990, and two screens are erected, one in the churchyard, and the other at High Well, about a mile from the village.

The theme  the year 2023 was ‘Unique to the Peak’, with the flower displays in the church depicting what makes the Peak District special.  Thus displays included the Haddon Hall,  a former seat of the Dukes of Rutland, and Eyam, widely known as the Plague Village.

Images: top, entrance to churchyard; second from top, well-dressing in churchyard (though referred to as a well-dressing, this screen is nowhere near a well, or other source of water); third from top, flower festival display referring to Haddon Hall; bottom, part of display referring to Eyam; all taken on Friday 25 August, the last day of the event.

For further information on well-dressing see ‘Stoney Middleton well-dressing, 2015’, posted 30 July 2015.
