The Alban Pilgrimage, 2022

Posted on by royvickery |

St Albans annual Alban Pilgrimage was held on Saturday 25 June 2022.  The day started at 11 a.m. with a procession from St Peter’s church to the Cathedral. Giant puppets, inspired by the Notting Hill Carnival and introduced in 2005, represented figures from the story of St Alban, clergy and bands attracted a good number of spectators.  Outside the Cathedral’s west door the puppets acted out martyrdom of Alban.  Many people then entered the Cathedral for a Festival Eucharist.

In the afternoon, at 4 p.m, a less well attended Festival Evensong was held in the Cathedral, finishing with the clergy and congregation processing past the saint’s shrine and placing or throwing red roses (Rosa cv.) on to it.
