The Annunciation at the Annunciation

Posted on by royvickery |

The Feast of the Annunciation of Our Lord to the Blessed Virgin Mary was celebrated at the (High Anglican) Church of the Annunciation, Marble Arch, in the City of Westminster, on Friday 25 March 2022.  The sung mass, which started at 7.30 p.m. and continued for about an hour; approximately 50 people were present.

Towards the end of the service a statue of the Virgin was carried around the church, followed by members of the congregation.  Despite it being Lent, when flowers are traditionally banned from churches, the statue was abundantly decorated with colourful flowers, and another statue of the Virgin near the altar had two jars of daffodils (Narcissus cv.) placed in front of it. No Madonna lilies (Lilium candidum), the flower usually included in paintings of the Annunciation, were present.
