Mothering Sunday, 26 March 2017, again provided London flower-sellers a busy, and one assumes profitable, opportunity to sell to all sorts of unlikely people who probably never buy flowers at other times of the year.

This stall, outside Balham station, in the London Borough of Wandsworth, photographed  at about 1 p.m., had obviously had a busy morning, and still had people waiting to buy.  Unlike Valentine’s Day, when red roses, or other red flowers, predominate, there appears to be no special flower associated with Mothering Sunday, though traditionally in country areas violets (Viola odorata) and primroses (Primula vulgaris), both collected in the wild, seem  to have been favoured.
