The recent cold spell has led to a shortage of daffodils:
‘Families who want to present the traditional bunch of daffodils [Narcissus cvs] on Mothering Sunday should consider getting to the florists before the weekend … the cold snap has meant that many daffodils have not bloomed in time for peak demand this weekend. They are about four weeks later than usual, leading to a much smaller crop.’
This has led to the wholesale price is rising by 50% [Daily Telegraph, 6 March 2013].
