[Ireland] I’ve read much about lilac being unlucky if brought into the house. I think that most people confuse it with buddliea, also known as butterfly bush … It was actually buddleia which was considered unlucky to bring indoors. I have no idea where that idea originally came from, but my mother (b.1919) was adamant that it should never come indoors [e-mail, January 2021].

This is the only record that we have of this belief; other records, or comments would be much appreciated.
