In 2002 the U.S. House of Representatives designated 12 December as Poinsettia Day, this date being selected as it was the day on which Joel Roberts Poinsett died in 1851.  Poinsett is said to have introduced poinsettia, Euphorbia pulcherrima, from Mexico to the United States in 1825, though it was not until early in the twentieth century that the it became a popular Christmas houseplant.  Any information on how Poinsettia Day is celebrated would be gratefully received –  roy@plant-lore.com
