Celebration Day, 2023

Posted on by royvickery |

According to a report in The Times of 27 May 2023 thousands of its readers will be planting trees to mark Celebration Day, the following day.  The newspaper and the National Trust will be creating a new woodland, ‘a “living memorial”  for loved ones who have died’.

5,000 oak (Quercus), beech (Fagus), hornbeam (Carpinus) and lime (Tilia) trees ‘as well as wildlife-rich shrub species’ will be grown on a site near Dunham Massey in Greater Manchester from the autumn.  The trees will be available to Times readers until 21 June, and will be planted by teams of volunteers in the autumn.

‘Celebration Day has been created to encourage people to take time out of their busy lives to pause and think about important people they have lost.’
