We are grateful Jane Lawson who has forwarded from her friend Sister Imelda Poole this image of a cross made for the Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, 14 September 2022. Sr Imelda is a member of the Institute of the Blessed Virgin Mary, and is based in Albania.
‘Today’s feast (and our cross of flowers) remind us that the cross is never has the final say; resurrection and new life in some form or other always triumphs over sadness, death and destruction. Today, we hold onto that hope, we remember, we keep believing … and we bow.’
An alternative name for 14 September is Holy Cross Day; it commemorates the finding of the Holy Cross by St Helena in AD 326, and the dedication of the Church of the Holy Sepulchre on the same spot nine years later.
