The Newland Oak, which grew at Newland, in the Forest of Dean, Gloucestershire.  According to the caption to this photograph in the Dean Heritage Centre, at one time it was believed that this tree ‘was mentioned in the Domesday Book, although it is now thought to have been nearer 600 years old’.

Most of the tree fell as a result of  heavy snow in 1955, but a branch survived until 1970 when it was destroyed by arson.
