Two  events at Todmorden Folklore Centre, West Yorkshire, on Saturday 27 September:

11.30 a.m.:  Plant-lore talk.

Report: Almost 40 people packed into the room to hear this talk, and overview of the speaker’s interests in plants and their folklore.  Questions and comments followed, and several people wrote down their memories and contributions to the Archive.

2.00 p.m.: Herbal Heritage walk.

Report: This event was fully booked with 20 people turning up.  After discussions earlier in the day, it was decided to investigate and discuss the ‘weeds’ growing in gutters and pavements in back streets behind the  Centre.  Once again, the leader stressed that common, everyday plants attracted the most folklore,thus we discussed such things as shepherd’s purse (Capsella bursa-pastoris), bramble (Rubus fruticosus) and dandelion (Taraxacum officinale).  Most of the participants provided interesting comments and asked stimulating questions.  Thank you.

These will be the last events to be held at the Centre before it goes into hibernation until spring 2026. However, its on-line lecture series will continue, including on Wednesday 3 December, Queer Plant-lore – Signs & Symbols, by Roy Vickery.
