Hinton St George, Somerset, held its annual Punkie Night on Thursday 29 October 2026. Many people gathered at the village hall, a minority of them carrying mangold lanterns, from 6 p.m., and set off to walk around the village at 6.30. According to Punkie Night Facebook, there were ‘literally hundreds’ of people. The Knights of King Ina Morris Side, ‘in their winter guise as the Somerset Hunky Punks’ performed at various stops along the way.
The punkie lanterns were made from rather small mangolds, and mostly lacked any great artistry, being simple carved faces, unusually many of the mangolds still had their leaves attached.
Several of the houses in the village displayed carved pumpkins on their doorsteps.
