In February 2026 the following note was posted on British Wildflowers Facebook page:  ‘In Sussex we call it [stinking hellebore, Helleborus foetidus] the witches’ plants.  You don’t plant them, they just spring up if you are a witch.’                                                                                                                        Any comments would be greatly appreciated, please send them to roy@plant-lore.com
