Plant-Lore

Collecting the folklore and uses of plants

REMINDER: Event 30 October 2021

On Saturday 30 October Roy Vickery will be leading a stroll discussing Brambles and Berries – Common Plants in Autumn, starting at the Woodfield Pavilion (entrance via 16a Abbotswood Road, London, SW16), London Borough of Lambeth, starting at 11.30 a.m., and continuing for about an hour.  Free and no booking necessary.

Report:  Although 17 people had booked for this event, only eight turned up, presumably heavy rain had discouraged other people from attending, even though this had stopped and the sun was shining by 11.30.  We explored a small area around the Pavilion, started by discussing hawthorn, Crataegus monogyna, and finishing with redshank, Persicaria maculosa.  All those present joined in the discussion, and several kindly recorded their plant-lore memories.  Thank you.

Image: narrow-leaved ragwort, Senecio inaequidens, native to South Africa, naturalized near the Pavilion, where it was first recorded in June 2020.
