Roy Vickery will be leading a Signs of Spring on Tooting Common, London Borough of Wandsworth, on Sunday 13 March 2022, starting at 2.30 p.m. For further details see the Events page on this website.
Report: Eight people turned up to spend an hour slowly wandering around and examining plants the southwest corner of the Common. These included cherry plum, Prunus cerasifera, blackthorn, P. spinosa, and Italian lords-and-ladies, Arum italicum, one clump of which had unmarked green leaves and was thus identifiable as ssp. neglectum, and two other clumps which had leaves which had pale cream markings unlike those in ssp. italicum, so we were unable to work out which subspecies it belonged to.
‘A very interesting and enjoyable walk.’
