Collecting the folklore and uses of plants

REMINDER: Wildflower walk, 20 June 2017

Posted on by royvickery |

Roy Vickery will be leading a Wildflower Walk on Tooting Common, London Borough of Wandsworth on Tuesday 20 June starting at 7.00 p.m.  Meet in the car park at the junction of Tooting Bec Road with Dr Johnson Avenue, about 10 minutes walk from Tooting Bec tube station.  Roy has been leading walks on the Common for over 30 years, and in addition to a wide range of wildflowers we shall also examine the extremely rare tree hybrid between Turkey and evergreen oak.

Collection in aid of local Green Party funds.

Report:   Five people turned up and spent an enjoyable summer’s evening on Tooting Common.  Plants which were discussed included green alkanet (Pentaglottis sempervirens), butcher’s broom (Ruscus aculeatus) and goat’s rue (Galega officinalis).  A collection raised £30 for local Green Party funds, and participants suggested that similar walks might be held at other seasons.
