Collecting the folklore and uses of plants

REMINDER: Wonderful Weeds, 3 August

Posted on by royvickery |

Sunday 3 August:  Wonderful Weeds stroll around Grove DIY Community Garden, East Dulwich, starting at 6 p.m. and continuing for about an hour.

Report: The Community Garden is tucked away in a corner behind a skatepark which occupies the former carpark of a disused pub.  Perhaps surprisingly the skaters abandoned their activities and 10 (later 12) assembled in the garden to learn about the folklore and uses of some of the weeds growing there, starting with fat hen (Chenopodium album), an ancient introduction to Britain which can be eaten, and continuing around the Garden discussing many of the ‘weeds’ found.  Participants asked interesting questions and appeared to enjoy themselves.
