Rose rents – 4

We have recently received the following, but have been unable to trace its source:

‘gives all the said manors to John Chichester and his Margaret his wife, and their heirs for ever, at the annual rent of a rose, at the Feast of St John the Baptist.’

John Chichester (1474-1538), a Devon landowner, married Margaret [de] Beaumont (1475-1507), daughter of Sir Hugh Beaumont andĀ  Thomasine Wise, in c.1495. As nothing else is known about this rent any further information would be much appreciatedĀ  – roy@plant-lore.co.uk.
