Rose rents – 3

According to a report in the Daily Telegraph of 25 March 1995, ‘a landowner has agreed to lease a plot of land for a children’s hospice with the rent set at 0ne dozen red roses a year’.  Mary Cornelius-Reid, of Sutton Scotney, near Winchester, Hampshire, granted a 99-year lease for a £5 million project by the Wessex Children’s Hospice Trust on the condition that she received the roses every Midsummer’s Day.
