Wreath for Douglas Haig

Wreath of artificial poppies and plastic fern placed at the base of the equestrian statue of  Douglas Haig, First Lord Haig, in Whitehall, London.  Haig commanded the British Expeditionary Force on the Western Front from 1915 until the end of  the First World War.  After the War Haig devoted his energy to the welfare of former service man, and served as first president of the Royal British Legion, from 1921 until his death in 1928.

Although in recent years there has been a tendency for Remembrance Sunday wreaths to remain where they have been placed for several months, in 2020 most of the memorials in Whitehall, including the Cenotaph, had had all of their wreaths removed.

Photographed 5 December 2020.
