Another J. Welch & Sons card, sent on 5 May 1905 from Kenton, Devon, to an address in Paddington, London: ‘Red columbine [Aquilegia sp./cv] – anxious’.  This card is a reminder of how the Language could be easily misinterpreted.  According to another card (posted here on 22 July 2026), columbine means ‘resolved to win’, whereas red columbine means ‘anxious’.
