25 March, Feast of the Annunciation – 2

Posted on by royvickery |

The Annunciation, when the Archangel Gabriel appeared to the Virgin Mary to inform her that she would bear a son, Jesus, is commemorated on 25 March each year.  Numerous depictions of this event have been produced, most of them featuring Madonna lilies, Lilium candidum.  The example here, in St Thomas’s Church, Salisbury, Wiltshire, dates from the 15th century.
