According to a letter from Rochdale, Lancashire, published in the i of 10 October 2017, people troubled by cats visiting their lawns and flowerbeds should ‘try hanging a cucumber [Cucumis sativus] … in the garden; for some reason, cats are frightened of them’.  After ‘years of problems’ she could vouch for the effectiveness of this: ‘It’s worth strange looks from your neighbours’.
