West Dorset, already home of the World Nettle Eating Championships, is now also home of the Annual World Garlic Eating Competition.
The first competition, held at the George Inn, Chideock, and organised by a local garlic grower, attracted 26 contestants who tried to eat as many pre-peeled garlic [Allium sativum] cloves as possible in five minutes. The winner was Oliver Farmer of Charmouth.
