Little, if anything, is known about the life of St Trofimena, who is said to have have been a young Sicilian martyred in 640 for refusing to marry a pagan.  Her remains were thrust into an urn which washed ashore at Minori, on the Amalfi Coast in Italy.

This small bust, placed on an altar in St Peter’s Italian Church, Clerkenwell, London, depicts her holding the traditional martyr’s palm.
