An article in Catholic East Anglia, May 2026, ‘encourages parishes to celebrate a May Crowing as a simple and meaningful way to honour the Blessed Virgin Mary and strengthen community faith and devotion’.    This involves the ‘placing of a crown of flowers on a statue of Mary, recognising her as Queen of Heaven and Mother of all’.

It’ s suggested that this should be done after a Sunday Mass when many families are present.  A small procession might be made to the parish’s statue of Mary, ‘one child may be chosen to place a flower crown on Mary’s statue’.  ‘Incorporating prayer is essential; consider singing a Marian hymn together or praying a Hail Mary or a decade of the Rosary.  These simple elements help deepen the spiritual meaning of the celebration’.
