Collecting the folklore and uses of plants

Plant-lore Archive – November 2025

In many ways November was an unusually  quiet month; no talks were given, no walks were led, and only two items of information were received from two contributors.

21 posts were added to website, and the number of searches made of it remained low.  The  number of useful messages received also remained low, but slightly increased.

Users are reminded that the information included under ‘Material Collected’, for most species,  represents only a small selection of the total in the Archive.  Please contact the compiler roy@plant-lore.com for further information.

Also, much of the material included on other pages is considered to be work in progress, so any comments, corrections, additions, etc., would be greatly appreciated.

Visits were made to Brixham for its annual Commemoration of the Glorious Revolution, and to various remembrance events in London.  Two enjoyable events were attended: the London Fortean Society’s Haunted Landscape conference at Conway Hall, and the Botanical Society of Britain and Ireland’s annual British and Irish Botanical Conference at Edge Hill University.

On 20 November, at the BSBI’s  AGM, Roy Vickery was elected an Honorary Member of the Society; it was said that he ‘exemplifies the values the values of the BSBI, encouraging appreciation of plants, always helpful and inspirational, and truly dedicated to the flora of Britain and Ireland’.

One minor publication was produced:

‘Cemetery Plants: Cleavers, Galium aparineFriends of Brompton Cemetery Magazine, 84: 10-11.
