Wreath of red poppies (Papaver) placed at the base of the 1825 memorial to John Knox and other early Protestant reformers in the Glasgow Necropolis, by the Glasgow branch of the Apprentice Boys of Derry Campsie Club. The Apprentice Boys, a society for Protestant men founded in 1814, commemorates the closure of the Derry city gates in December 1688 by apprentices to prevent an invasion by Jacobite soldiers.
