9 May is designated Russian Victory Day, marking the defeat of the Nazis in 1945. In London this is marked by the placing of wreaths at the memorial to the estimated 27 million Russians who lost their lives during the Second World War, in Geraldine Mary Harmsworth Park, in Southwark, London.
There appeared to be no formal ceremony, people simply arrived with bouquets of flowers throughout the morning. Perhaps inevitably, the event also attracted a small group of people protesting against the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
