Thursday 2 July, Brixton’s Backstreets, an exploration of the plants growing in gutters, and on pavements and walls in an area of Brixton near Brixton mainline and Victoria Line stations, starting at 6.30 p.m. and continuing for c.90 minutes.  For further information see the Events page on this website.

Report: 11 people turned up and joined the leader on a pleasant summer evening, to enjoy a slow wander around the streets discussing and trying to identify the plants which we found.  In all we found 77 species of flowering plants and two species of ferns.  Of the 69 species of flowering plants which we were able to fully identify 33 (c.48%) were native, 15 (c.22%) were archaeophytes (introduced before 1500), and 21 (c.30%) were neophytes (introduced after 1500).
